            掃描二維碼進行跟讀打分訓練

This week, we answer a question from a reader in China. Jojo writes:

            本周,我們回答來自中國的一位中國讀者提出的問題。喬喬寫道:

Good day. I would like to know the difference between "have" and "eat" and when to use them. Thanks a lot. -Jojo, China

            你好。我想知道“have”和“eat”的區別以及什么時候使用。非常感謝。

            Hello Jojo!

            你好,喬喬!

When talking about a specific meal or food, the verbs "eat" and "have" are often interchangeable.

            當談論特定餐食時,動詞“eat”和“have”通??梢曰Q。

That means either word can be used.

            那是指這兩個詞用哪個都可以。

Listen to an example of when to choose either word:

            聽一下這兩個詞用哪個都可以的例句:

I'm having breakfast right now. I'll see you in a little while.

            我現在正在吃早飯。一會兒見。(用have)

I'm eating breakfast right now. I'll see you in a little while.

            我現在正在吃早飯。一會兒見。(用eat)

In the example, most Americans would probably use "eat" but "have" would still sound natural. And there is no different in meaning between the two.

            上面的例句中,大多數美國人可能會用“eat”,但是“have”聽起來仍很自然。這兩個詞在意思上沒有區別。

But the word "have" is used in polite or kind requests and offers that relate to food and meals.

            但“have”一詞被用于和餐食有關的禮貌或友好請求與提議。

In these cases, often the eating does not take place at home.

            在這類情況下,吃飯這件事通常不是發生在家中。

Here's an example of a kind offer from a friend:

            下面這個例子是來自朋友的一個友好提議:

Want to have dinner at my place? I'm making grilled fish.

            要到我家吃晚飯嗎?我要做烤魚。

We also use "have" when ordering food at a restaurant.

            在餐廳點餐時我們也用“have”。

It does not matter what kind of restaurant it is. We do not use eat.

            不管它是什么樣的餐廳。我們不用“eat”。

Listen to this short restaurant exchange:

            聽一下餐廳里的這段簡短交談:

Good morning, what will you have?

            早上好,你們要來點什么?

We will have the oatmeal, thanks.

            我們來點燕麥片,謝謝。

Here is something else to consider when choosing one or the other:

            在選擇用“have”或“eat”時還需要考慮別的方面:

            The verb "have" is transitive.

            動詞“have”是及物動詞。

That means we must always say what we ate or will eat.

            這意味著我們必須總得說出我們吃了什么或者要吃什么。

For instance, in the restaurant exchange, the man said they would have the oatmeal.

            例如,餐廳里的那段交談中,那個人說他們來點燕麥片。

"Eat" is intransitive, which means we do not have to say it. So, you can say this:

            “Eat”是不及物動詞,也就是說我們不必說吃了什么或者要吃什么。所以,你可以這么說:

            I'm really hungry. Let's eat!

            我好餓。我們吃飯吧!

But you cannot say, "I'm really hungry. Let's have!" You can, however, say:

            但你不能說:“我好餓。我們吃!”然而,你可以說:

I'm really hungry. Let's have pasta!

            我好餓。我們吃意大利面吧!

And that's Ask a Teacher for this week.

            以上就是本期名師答疑的全部內容。
